Hello friends!
Phew, we’ve had projects take a long time, but this mudroom project is a doozy. I know that it will be so beautiful once it is finished so that spurs us on when we feel uninspired. Which does happen often!
I thought that since we are nearing the end of the project and putting on the finishing design elements — we could share the important nuggets we have learned from the process. They are not mind blowing or anything but would be helpful for those redoing or creating a mudroom space.
Or just for design inspiration of any kind!
One: Lots of Hooks
You can never have too many places to hang things! Not just jackets — there are so many things that can be put on hooks. Bags, purses, hats, scarves, and pretty much anything you’d find in a mudroom. We added a bunch of hooks and if we don’t use them then they’ll still look okay!
Two: Storage Baskets
We have always loved baskets, but our new mudroom has loads of spots to put them. These kinds of areas need as much storage spots for all the extra things that get accumulated in these spaces. You can go for matching baskets or mismatched ones – we have decided on mix and matching ones.
Three: Spots for Shoes
Okay, this one we may not have created enough of because we always seem to need more spots for shoes. You can put together shelves or cubbies or even hooks for shoes. We went with cubbies and will probably have to add more shoe hooks!
Four: Closets or Enclosed Spaces
One always needs more closets, especially in old houses. Matthew and I created more closet space when we redesigned the mudroom. If you have the space then we recommend building more closets or any enclosed space, actually. Cupboards are just as useful and hide a multitude of sins!
There you have it! Our quick tips to make the most out of your mudroom space. Do you think we’ve missed anything? Let us know in the comments – we’d love to hear from you!
