5 Ways to Create Fall Style

The light is starting to change, and you know what that means, it is the start of my preferred season. And I don’t say that just because my birthday is in the Fall. There are so many reasons to love this time of year and all the changes that come with it.

My favorite way to honor the arrival of Autumn is to make certain changes to our home décor. I like to take it slow because the blend of late Summer and early Fall is underrated in my opinion.

I don’t typically go for artificial leaves or scarecrows (nothing wrong if that’s your thing) for my Autumn décor but usually something a little more subtle and then as the season progresses, I add more and more. Want to know my favorite items to start with? Let’s do this!

1. Add New Colors

By all means, if you love bright oranges and yellows or lean more toward the neutrals of Fall then go for it. But what we like to do is take the colors in our color palette and make them muddier and darker. That way the items still blend within your home and style but also elicit the change of seasons and coziness of Autumn.

2. Light Candles

This one is a newish one to us. I grew up lighting candles for dinner, but we never had them throughout the house. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I started lighting them just for ambiance. We prefer plain candles with no scents and usually a taller/thinner candle. My favorite new find are candles that are twisted – they’re so fun!

3. Bring Nature Inside

We have always been fans of foraging and bringing the nature inside no matter the season but there is something so beautiful about what nature does with the Autumnal colors. We dry flowers, grasses and fruits, style with pinecones, acorns and leaves and of course, start to bring in pumpkins of all colors. We do love your classic pumpkin color but the new ones that come in all shades are so fascinating!

4. Cozy Blankets

Okay, so we have blankets throughout our home all year around, you never know when you get a chilly summer night – but our blankets that we use for Fall are typically a little heavier, the colors are deeper, and the patterns are less floral. We love a chunky knit, a tartan plaid, a block print or a nature inspired pattern. Give us all the blankets!

5. Cook Seasonal Recipes

Matthew may be the cook in our family, but I love to bake and during Fall I start to really come into my own. There are so many seasonal treats that come with this time of year. Each recipe evokes the emotions that I associated with Autumn. I mean, it isn’t fall without pumpkin muffins and apple pie, right?

That’s it! Do you think we missed any Autumn necessities? Let us know in the comments – we’d love to hear from you!
