Well, hi there, friends!
Today we are sharing a tradition that was started between our group of friends and then shared with Waite’s family. It’s fun to do when we are all together and a nice ritual to add to the holiday time – or any time of year!
We call this custom — Drink Club. I know, hehe, super creative! But it says what it does on the tin. Our friend said that she wanted to learn more about spirits and how to best enjoy them as an adult. We agreed and the idea was born!
We decided that we would meet up once a month and choose one spirit that we would each make a drink with. We have three families that we do this with, so each couple decides on one drink to bring and share together.
We have done whiskey, rum, wine, vodka, gin and one year in October we did hot drinks, like hot toddy. Most of the time we would get our inspiration from Pinterest. Our friends would sometimes try to recreate a drink they had tried years ago and wanted to make themselves. Waite is not a huge drinker, so it was fascinating to see how her palette grew over the months.
When we do drink club with our family it is usually around Christmas, so we do festive style drinks with whatever alcohol you want to choose. Since there are lot of different generations at our family drink club that means a large variation of the kind of drinks created that night.
We started doing these get togethers in 2019 and were able to do them for about a year and a half until Covid became too much of a threat. We took off the rest of 2020 and most of 2021 with our friends – I can’t believe it’s been that long!
The last time we did it with Waite’s family it was 2019 so it will be amazing to be able to do it again in 2021. We are making mulled wine – a classic English holiday drink!
