You can also take advantage of a smaller budget when thrifting because your money goes a lot longer than at a commercial store.
2. The Three Must Have P’s
We figured that we would group these three things together because they have to do with décor. To complete your English Charm style, you need to have an abundance of plates, patterns, and plants. The plates can be used for wall décor as well as beautiful table settings. The more patterns in your rooms the better! The trick is trying to balance them out well. The easiest way to do that is by having different scales of patterns in each room. The house plants can be spring bulbs, low maintenance plants or even flowering greenery such as geraniums.
3. Your Own Personality
One of our favorite elements of English country style is that the design aesthetic celebrates adding your own personality into the spaces. Whether that be through pops of color, furniture layouts, pictures of loved ones and even the mess of real life. Your home is where you and your loved ones live so it is more than okay for it to show that.
4. Secondhand Artwork
Okay, when we say artwork that can be anything from a painted piece, to a pencil sketch, to a movie poster. It is whatever you are drawn to, but the main part is that it is not something you can find in a big box store where they made thousands. Commercial artwork feels stale and can sometimes look cheap. It is all about the curation of the secondhand pieces and the story they tell.
5. Cozy Reading spots packed with books
This one is a double one! When you create more cozy spaces in your home you have more spots for people to curl up with a good book and therefore need more books. A problem? We think not! It all adds to that English charm. The reading nook can be a comfortable chair, blanket, and side table – nothing too complicated!
