Hi friends!
Did you guys see the new Christmas bough we made for over the dining room table?
We are so happy with how it turned out! It is quite magical and makes dining a joy. When we were imagining the newest version after our failed first version Waite knew she wanted to have snowflake hanging throughout it.
When was the last time you made snowflakes? For Waite it had been since she was a kid, so she jumped on her trusty Pinterest and looked to see what other people recommended. Nothing. There was nothing out there that described the particular snowflake Waite was looking for.
She wanted something small, textured, easy to cut and design and hangable. So, after finding nothing online Waite followed her nose through the process and came up with her own design! It’s super easy to do, makes 2 ½ – 3 inch snowflakes and can be used all winter as decoration.
Want to know how we did it? Read on!
1. White A4 paper
Alright, this one is an easy step – grab a piece of white A4 paper and place it on the table horizontally.
2. Fold in quarters
Take the paper and fold it in half and then fold those halves in half again. Now it should be in four equal parts separated by the folds.
3. Cut on fold lines into strips
Now cut along each fold line and once you are finished you will have four separate strips.
4. Take the strip and accordion fold it ½ inch thick
Grab one of those strips and fold the top down ½ inch. Now repeat the process in an accordion style until you use up the whole strip. Trim off an excess.
5. Fold in half
Take the ½ inch accordion strip and fold that in half.
6. Tape together
Tape the folded ends together so that it creates a fan shape.
7. Cut into desired shape
Now press the fan closed and cut out whatever beautiful shape you’d like to create. Be creative — rounded edges, points, squares, triangular cut outs, diamonds, whatever you can think of!
8. Carefully unfold
This may be the most important thing, be very delicate when you try to unfold the fan, remember you taped the other end together so don’t pull too hard.
9. Tape together
Now that you’ve unfolded the snowflake you can tape the other ends together so that it is a complete circle. Then hold the center of the flake and fluff it out so that it is even throughout the entire flake.
10. Put ornament hanger in cutout
Since you made all those beautiful cut outs you now have the perfect spot to put the ornament hanger so that you can hang your new snowflake.
11. Hang up anywhere!
Now you are all finished! You can hang your snowflake on branches, garland, and in front of windows. The possibilities are endless!
There you go — time to make your own! If you do end up creating some snowflakes make sure to send up some pictures.
