Hello darlings,
Today we are talking about one of our favorite things to discuss – paint color! There are so many elements to paint color that we could cover, but today we are going back to basics with talking about the colors we’ve used in our house.
We get a fair amount of questions about the colors we have and we love sharing about them which is why we thought it would be easiest for everyone to have one spot to go to for the information.
So here we go!
1. Setting Plaster by Farrow & Ball
Our kitchen cabinets used to be a traditional New England red which was lovely but not to our style. We took a lot of time to find the perfect color that wasn’t too over or under whelming and finally arrived at Setting Plaster. Once we paired it with the backwall color painted in chalkboard paint it was a match made in heaven. I can be a warm or cool color, feminine or masculine and neutral or statement depending on the light and atmosphere. How cool is that?
2. Duck Green by Farrow & Ball
We could talk all day about how much we love Duck Green in our bedroom. It is an unexpected color for a north facing bedroom, but it really has done wonders for the space. The room is lush and vibrant in the morning while creating an energizing color to wake up to. At night the color cocoons us filling the space with cozy vibes for you to peacefully fall asleep. We just love that it can be both things perfectly!
3. Dead Salmon by Farrow & Ball
We know it’s one of the oddest names for a paint color, but it is hands down Waite’s favorite color. It is a sludgy color but is also elegant and playful at the same time. It can’t be pinned down on what the color really is because it changes by the minute throughout the day and night. You may think I am overacting but I am not. Seriously. I can walk into the room and look at a corner and see brown walls, then walk out and back in again and look at that corner and it is pink. One of the most dynamic colors out there!
4. Red Earth by Farrow & Ball
This color was an unexpected one for us. It is outside of our color palette and in a moment of midwinter madness Waite decided to paint the room this color. We still enjoy it and do think that small rooms such as these are the perfect places to go outside of color palettes and normal “rules”. The color was originally chosen to go with a particular wallpaper for the room which would tie all the design ideas together better once it is up.
5. Queen Anne by Benjamin Moore
I absolutely love this color for bedrooms or guestrooms. It is such a flattering color for any skin tone and would make everyone look stunning when they are in the space. It also makes the room warm and inviting during the day while also creating a cozy nest at night. It looks wonderful in low light and even better in candlelight. Although it is a pink it can still be used as a neutral. It all depends on what you pair with the color and it will look great from romantic to modern styles.
6. Coventry Grey by Benjamin Moore
This color is not normally a color we would choose these days, but it is a remanent of our grey obsession days (we’ve all got them, right?) and still is warm and pairs well with all of our décor. This room gets morning sunlight so the rest of the day the color feels more mirky during the balance of the day which is more our jam. It would be a great choice for a room that you were not sure what the purpose of the space was going to be because it could easily flex.
7. Inchyra Blue by Farrow & Ball
I’ve been waiting to use this color for so long! It is the perfect mix of a deep pigmented blue and green and depending on the light you can see both colors. I know that many people believe that dark colors make rooms feel darker and that is not the case! Which is one reason why we are so excited to paint the mudroom this color. We are doing a higher gloss on the woodwork so that will help with reflecting the light around the room.
There you have it! Once we used more colors, we will certainly keep adding them to this list.
Do you have a favorite one we’ve used so far? We’ve love to hear it — let us know in the comments!
