After the chaotic year of 2020 we decided that during the winter of 2021 we would revamp the master bedroom with eventual plans to do the dressing room and master bath.
When we first bought the house in 2018, we loved all the fresh shades of cream, linen and taupe of the wall colors. Each room felt simple and clean which was a great background for our all our found treasures.
It wasn’t until I decided I wanted a fireplace mantle in the bedroom as my Christmas present from Matthew that it dawned on me to paint the room as well. Once I decided we were going to paint it I started brainstorming colors and landed on green pretty quick. I knew I wanted to use a Farrow and Ball color and that it would be dark to create a cocooning affect. With those two guidelines in hand, I landed on Duck Green.
When we did the test patches on all the walls, we were pretty excited with the color and knew it was right. Then when we started painting all the walls and woodwork, I started to get a little nervous. What if it was too dark? Why did I think all this work would be fun?
Finally, after multiple coats and lots of late weekend nights we were finished with the color and I’ve gotta say, all the second-guessing melted away. This color is one of the most dynamic colors I’ve ever been around. It’s a perfect balance — during the day the color feels bright and welcoming while during the night it is cocooning and cozy.
Matthew did an amazing job with the mantle piece and I’m very proud of how short the whole process was. We were pretty much aligned with how we wanted it to look with a couple tweaks. We wanted the mantle to be in keeping with the rest of them in the house so that it looked like it has always been there.
Once the walls were finished, we realized we needed new sheets. I had be scouring the internet for cotton sheets with a botanical pattern. I surprisingly found them on Amazon which would not be my first choice. We’ve had them a while and are quiet happy with how they are wearing and washing.
We also moved the tv to being on the wall across from the bed instead of kitty cornered. When. We first moved here Matthew had not started training as an electrician, so he had to make do with where the outlets were. Now he’s training he easily moved the tv outlet and speaker bar.
We found the perfect chair at a local antiques fair and got it for a steal. The white looks so good against the dark walls! I have been brainstorming about adding a pillow and shawl but may wait until winter for that.
We have a couple of other small things to do in this space such as create a built-in over the heating unit, find the drapes, and a couple more pieces of art. Once we get those items done, we will be moving to the dressing room and master bath. Can’t wait to share our plans for those!
