The Plan for the Mudroom Renovation

Hello there! We hope you guys are having a happy new year so far and have lots of fun projects planned for 2022. We do! But first we have to finish up the projects we started in 2021 or 2020 (hehe).

So that means we will be wrapping up our mudroom project. Phew, it has felt like I’ve said that every week for months now, but you know how it is – always longer than expected.

Let’s quickly recap what we have done all ready. Matthew took out this door and also had to work on the floor so that the water ran out instead of into the room. Then he reframed the door, did a bunch of exterior work, insulation and will finish up by drywalling that corner.

Then we move onto the fun finishing items such as flooring, paneling, paint and design. To best share our vision for this space I’ve found some inspiration snaps from Pinterest and Instagram. Sometimes the rooms come together quickly and sometimes over a long period of time. Although we’ve been wanting to do this project for a while now, we have pretty much known the design from the get-go.

This is our color palette which includes two Farrow and Ball colors, India Yellow and Inchyra Blue, and a William Morris wallpaper called Golden Lily in the Slate/Manilla colorway. Since the wallpaper is an investment, this cuts down on waste from matching cuts due to the amount of doors we have in this room.

The woodwork and paneling in the room will be the Inchyra Blue color with a high gloss and the walls will be a low shine. The room does not have a huge amount of light, so that is why we are going to have a good amount of gloss on the paint to reflect as much light as possible.

The India Yellow is the color of the laundry room, which is right off the mudroom, so we thought it was important to include that in the palette as well. It is also a color that flows throughout our house, so it ties it wall together as well!

This the wall that will get the paneling on it. One reason why the drywall has been left looking like this is because it will be covered up by the panels.

The reason we decided to not do it around the whole room was one, because of cost and two, because this one wall was an original barn wall and would have looked similar to the panel we chose. We wanted the paneling to be the same as what we have in the other parts of the house, so it was important to find something that had the right period feel.

Along with the paneling we want to have a peg rail along the whole wall so that we have plenty of space to hang coats, hats and all the above. I like how this particular picture has the peg rail built into the paneling so that everything is flush.

We will also have a shelf above the peg rail and a bench below for every more storage. We want to make sure that there is a place to put all our shoes, gloves and everything else. Once both those features are added it will look similar to this inspirational photo below.

Can you all picture it together? Hopefully! If not, we will have it sorted and put together so that we can show it to you all. Fingers crossed it will be soon!

Any questions about our mudroom plans? Feel free to leave a comment – we’d love to hear from you.
