Things to Add to Your Guest Room to Make it Feel Welcoming

Well, hello there, friends!

Now that the warmer months, vacation and holidays are almost upon us — I know that we will soon be starting to get more visitors at our home. That means that we want our guest rooms to feel like they are in the tip top shape to welcome our guests.

We have always loved having friends and family to visit and one of our favorite things is to make sure that the room the guests are staying in (even if it is not a dedicated guest room) has all the luxuries one would need.

Not sure what those are? That’s why we put together this blog post so you can use it as a check list for the next time a loved one pops over. Bonus if you put this all together from “shopping your home” instead of going out and buying all new things.

1. Add Homey Details

You do not need to go over the top with this! Add things that you make have lying around such as books, baskets, vases, framed photos or artwork. Pretty much anything! This will make the space not just feel like somewhere your guests are staying but a cozy and welcoming home away from home. We also like to add lots of different levels of lighting – overhead, good reading lighting and mood lighting are all key.

2. Fancy Hotel Details

Right before our visitors arrive — we clean the guest towels, fold them and place them on their beds. We also add a bar of soap and/or any other extra mini versions of toiletries we may have. That way if they forgot anything then they will be covered and won’t need to ask for your own personal products. We haven’t gone as far as putting a chocolate on the pillow, but I wouldn’t past us!

3. Extra Extras!

This one is a big one as everyone has different sleeping temperatures they prefer. We like to have the room on the cool side but many of our guests like to be warmer, so we make sure to have extra blankets in the room. They don’t have to be out and displayed if you do not have the space but make sure to let your guests know where the blankets are. Extra pillows are also a great bonus if you have them as well!

4. Those Unexpected Items

Here are a couple items that we have had people ask for that we now make sure are always in an easy to find spot in the guest room. We make sure to have water cups on both bedside tables and if you want to go really crazy their own picture. This may sound old timey, but we also include to have some interesting reading material like magazines or books. For those that don’t like hard copies we include a framed photo of the Wi-Fi password. And of course, always a bouquet of flowers!

5. Window Coverings

Oh, this one is another very important one. I grew up with nothing covering my windows and waking up to the sun but if I had to do that now I would be waking up at the crack of dawn and not a happy camper. We make sure to have curtains, shades or both as options for our guests that way if they prefer to sleep in the dark in the morning they can or if they want to have the sun pouring through, they can as well!

There you go! There are our five tips for creating a welcoming guest room. What did you think – did we miss anything? Let us know in the comments – we’d love to hear from you!
